I love Gimp! I love that it's accessible to everyone for free so I was able to learn the basics on this program before smoothly transitioning to photoshop for my professional photography. It also has many of the same features, and the sun fare and firefly brushes are a bonus. This software is professional enough to use for paid photoshoots if you practice and know how to use the settings. I also love that you can do compositing and have layers to do so as well
I think it's a lot "clunkier" than photoshop. It's the best free editing software I know of, but I feel as though some settings and color manipulation just didn't work as well as they should. Like photoshop, it can be very overwhelming at first because of all of the available options, so you really have to be dedicated when learning how to use the program. It's also slightly obscure, so there aren't many tutorials online to learn from, it's more of a trial and error thing.
having the tools to be able to cut things out of a background quickly has been invaluable. Also for anyone looking to eventually transition to photoshop but not wanting to invest the money, this is a great software to test out whether or not you like photo manipulation and editing.
Every feature that I could possibly want when editing an image is available in GIMP and this is an open source/free product. Considering alternatives with this much ability are in the hundreds of dollars for a single license, this product is my first go-to.
Tutorials and documentation are present in the product but it's very text heavy. The interface is efficient, but because there's so many features, it can be overwhelming to learn. Frequently I grumble that the user experience is not always pleasant or user-friendly.
Image editing, layering, creation of images for a web-app, logo design and alterations.
I have been using GIMP for years. For a free product, the amount customization and functionality available is incredible, and it's actually much easier to learn quickly without much training, as opposed to Photoshop.
There's really nothing I don't like about GIMP!
GIMP is a quick and easy program to download and get started on, and for a free product you can't go wrong!
Like the various photo editing tools available. Like the layers option and there are tons of editing options for each layer.
Can be a bit complex to understand for a photo editing beginner
Wanted to edit a lot of landscape photos taken during different seasons. GIMP lets me highlight the seasons by touching up photos taken using my DSLR. There are also a lot of tutorials from the community on getting started with some tools so those are helpful as well.
Its advanced features for editing images, cropping pixels that are placed sideways and that would not be croppable with Paint by example. We can also rotate images, play around with saturation degrees, shades, layers, and other features. It can be used as an enhanced design tool! And it is a valuable option for my possible future tasks about image editing, although I am mainly a software developer. Also, GIMP provides large support for languages, various platforms (Linux and OS X users can benefit from it too), and even in Windows, people still being on Windows 7 can use it, it is not limited to Windows 10. So I would definitely recommend it to others for image processing.
I have not used it much for spotting defects in implementation and features. However, its default visual theme for Windows could use lighter colors instead of the dark-gray nuance. In my opinion, GIMP should be more popularized and used in web and graphic design.
I was able to edit images; an example of a task - I needed to eliminate pixels from the edges of the image, meaning that I polished it; this is a technique that is not available in a common image editing tool like MS Paint. In the past, I needed GIMP at my former workplace (KEPLER-ROMINFO SA), the first time I used the program was in 2014 for an internal project that needed image manipulation, and it was helpful from the beginning.
I like that the software has all the features I need for free. I'm an armature when it comes to photo editing and is something I do infrequently so buying expensive subscription based software doesn't makes sense for me. I also love that the software is very popular so it's easy to find lots of tutorials and walk throughs. I've had no issues making the image manipulations I need.
I wouldn't say dislike but it is a very robust software so it can be a little overwhelming and complex when you don't have any training in that type of software. But I rather have more features than less so it just takes some time to learn.
I have a lot of hobbies so I sometimes need to clean up images, resize or change the format. I've used Gimp to turn pictures black and white, prep then for use with my 3D printer to make cookie cutters and changed to SVG files for use with my vinyl cutting tool.
GIMP is an open source and free program. Possibility to draw vector images with ease. It is very light software and there are portable versions. The program is very intuitive and can be used for teaching means due to the simplicity of the tools and easy learning. Although it is a lightweight program, it can be used in a professional manner, as it has tools at that level.
The main disadvantage of GIMP is the reason for being Open Source, as there is no specific person who comes to support problems, innovations. The updates are from private means and that differentiates from user to user, with that, this is the biggest difficulty that it causes on top of it, since programs of this size need updates at least annually. It is a poorly optimized program, so it takes a long time to start and small bugs occur.
The main reason is the cost, which is zero, that is enough, as it is complete software because it is free. The availability of choosing different formats when saving the project allowed me to continue to evolve more and more.
I like the free licence option. I also like the fact that it has plugins you can install that are the same and sometimes better than the expensive programmes on the market. It is easy to use and each tool comes with a description of how to use it or where you can use it. Not only is the programme great, but there are many videos and tutorials available online on how to use the programme teaching you new skills or inspiring new creatives for any project. We use Gimp for our Webdesign projects to resize and edit any media for our sites.
You have to download the plugins for the extra features, why don't they come with the standard programme. The process of uploading and integrating the plugins can be tedious for someone who is not well acquainted with computers or data management.
We do not need to pay expensive licence fees for media editing anymore. We can now create our own media and do not need to pay for the graphic design nor do we need to purchase stock images as we can make our own. It helps us create better photography results for our clients and excellent quality vector images.
The price is the first attraction. Ease of use is next
Menus are not the same as PS. This is not surprising because it is a different program. I know the tool is there, sometimes I have to look for it longer than I think I should.
I could no longer afford PS. So I turned to GIMP. Gimp does everything that PS can do and more!
I have been using GIMP for a few years and it has always been my favorite photo editing app for our social media. I find that it is very easy to use and that it has a friendly interface. It has great tools for colors such as color balance, temperature, saturation, exposure, and more. Best of all, it's completely free.
I do not find disadvantages in the use of GIMP, it is a completely free software with support for multiple image formats. It has tools for colors, filters, layers and more.
With GIMP I can edit, correct, combine and cut different photos for our social networks, as well as I can restore old photos. Also, I don't have to pay any subscription for its use.
GIMP is a versatile tool that can be used with both vector and pixel images and has great tools for both types of image editing. There are a lot of native filters and the image layer system allows you to test modifications to projects without risk of damaging changes made previously and that have not yet been saved, making the whole process faster.
GIMP developers are increasingly adding functions to the software. The downside of this is that it now has a slightly longer loading screen and demands a lot more hardware resources. For former GIMP users, it is important to note that the new version is much closer to professional image editing software than it was in the past.
The most popular image editing packages on the market are complex and require a lot of hardware resources. In addition, many of these software require monthly subscriptions that are not so attractive for users who use only basic functions or occasionally. GIMP is the best open source image editing solution available, it is possible to do just about anything you can with competing software without the need to be tied to contracts.
The best about Gimp is that is really easy to use its compact it has the main tools and it has a really nice interface.
I actully dont dislike anything how ever maybe the way the buttons are distributed on the scree maybe you can add a edit box where we can add specific buttons.
This program has been used in my school since long ago this has been really useful for kids to see what kind of art you can do on computer and see if they will like to study something in this topic in collage.
GIMP is an amazing piece of software that is free off the shelf and can be used to edit photos very quickly and easily. You just open it up, load the image, and begin to use a lot of create tools to be able to manipulate images for various pieces of materials.
I do not have a lot that I dislike about GIMP it is a very good tool. It does not have all of the fancy bells and whistles that photoshop does but the learning curve is also less. Overall I think it fits nicely into simple image manipulation use cases that I need it for.
With Gimp I have a lot of images that come in and need various pieces of manipulation done for them so that I can use them in presentations. I do a lot of presentations for marketing, customers, internal stakeholders, etc. With GIMP I can get the images in the right form to help me explain key concepts and make me a great communicator.
I find it is quite like photoshop. I Have done a lot of high level editing with GIMP and I have hardly felt there is not enough features. It has everything like layers, effects, you can manage your changes well. It is also very accessible. I use ninite to automatically install software and I almost always choose GIMP as part of the software that I install automatically in the software. And I was using it from when it was more basic. These days, it has so many features/ The bars to the right really help with tweaking your images with colour manipulating. I have a lot of fun with the filters too and you can find whatever you need to make the imagess great. I have only used the free version but I can't talk highly enough about it!
That is a hard question. I find it has most of the features I need so I dont really find it is lacking a whole lot!
Well for editing, it has solved a lot of problems. It has really helped with making my photos more sharp and unique. The benefits are great as you can use it to really hide your mistakes in photography or art
All features one needs, great speed, free
Outdated ui, menu is a bit complex, hard to find features
Photo editing
The translator called GIMP is an image editing program. . What I like most about this program is that it is free. The free softwares are usually simple and with few functions. But with GIMP this is not the case. It has almost the same functions as the paid Photoshop program. Finally what I also like is that it is easy to download and has a portable version.
As I said before, GIMP is a spectacular program but like any program it has its advantages and disadvantages. The first disadvantage that I can observe is in the portable version that GIMP offers. This version takes a long time to start and install. Another thing I do not like is that being a free program does not update as a paid program could update.
284/5000 The problems we solve with the GIMP are several. We use this program at the beginning and it helps us save time and effort since it does not require any type of advanced knowledge. We use this program in our company to make all the banners and logos on our pages.
It allows me to edit my images freely, with layers functionality, and a complete set of functions, at no cost.
Sometimes it is not so easy to use, and has not many filters.
I edit images, scale, crop, adjust brightness and contrast, make compositions, remove backgrounds, mix images, remove unwanted parts...
I use GIMP daily and it is my go to software for editing, adjusting and creating images for my blogs, social media and films. There are a lot of options to adjust, enhance and be creative.
The learning curve is a little steep if you are inexperienced with the software. Luckily there are many tutorials online.
In my business, I often need creative imagery for stories on my various blogs. GIMP helps be create these with relative easy.
To me, this is the most complete open source alternative to Photoshop. If you are confortable with image editing, have the time to learn the tool and have the basics of digital image and picture edition theory, this is the tool for you. Free, open source, very powerful. There is a version for Linux and Windows, it can work with all of the usual image formats: png, jpg, bpm, gif. It has filters, effects, layer and channel edition capabilities.
If you are a newcomer, it is very easy to get lost on the screen, instead of having only menus yoy get a lot of subwindows that either you close and cannot find out how to show them again or they use vital on screen space and leave you a very small working surface. Translation of menu labels or options are not entirely correct between languages versions. You can get lost when moving from english to spanish and viceversa.
Image edition, logo creation, digital photograph improving. Resize and apply filters to images. Digital pictures can be enhanced. You can design websites and digital prints with the aid of rulers and layers.
